Even in the past, corrugated paper was already used. It serves to protect and pack goods especially for transit. This type of paper is popular among the freight industries for use in packing goods to be sent worldwide.

Like a corrugated pallet, the corrugated paper is characterized by a flute. A flute is the paper which is structured in wave form in order to give the paper some strength. It has two different types, the lined and unlined. The lined type is made by reinforcing the flute with one or two smooth papers on each side while the unlined type consists of the fluted layer only without the smooth paper layer on each side.

Known for being lightweight and durable, the versatility of corrugated paper can be seen in many different types of application. As an example of its application, one can find this type of lightweight material being used in boxes used for shipping and storing materials. The use of the lined type is also found in many stores especially in the toys as well as in the furniture department.

The unlined type is used to cushion bulk fragile goods which are delivered through shipping or are used for decorations. History has it that ordinary corrugated sheets were first used in packing hurricane lamps; later after that, the colored corrugated paper was invented and it is usually used as borders for bulletin boards of hospitals and schools. Nowadays, the colored corrugated cardboard sheets are popularly known for its use as wall paper to create some backdrops for special occasions.

Large organizations use corrugated paper rolls in shipping items which are susceptible to breakage. Corrugated rolls are basically made by flutes which are reinforced by flat paper on one side. In addition to rolls, companies are also using corrugated paper boxes to lessen the possibility of item damages.

Some companies are using the customized corrugated boxes which are printed with company logo, shipping and contact information outside of the box. There exist three different grades of custom corrugated boxes. Grades depend on the material being used in manufacturing the box. Boxes of these types also come in a variety of sizes. The grade of these boxes is the determining factor on the amount of weight they can handle. The rating is commonly found at the bottom of the box.

Corrugated boxes which are used in stores for display are printed with brightly colored graphics to make them visually appealing. Some colored corrugated boxes are also used to make furniture, such as coffee table, stools or storage boxes.

The good thing about corrugated paper products is that they are environment friendly since they can be easily recycled. In fact, most of them which are used worldwide come from recycled paper. Paper is made from wood pulp, which will eventually turn into paper boxes; but through recycling, millions of trees will be saved from being cut down.
